The Haute Maurienne Vanoise resort of Aussois welcomed the teams of La Grande Odyssée VVF today, in a beautiful landscape whitened by overnight snow, for the launch of the three days of the Allianz Trophy and the 6th stage sponsored by Zolux. For the occasion, spectators enjoyed the ballet of the crews on a beautiful loop, each team leaving at the arrival of the previous one. It was a truly enjoyable spectacle, as the many fans lining the route were able to watch the dogs at close quarters, giving their all as they climbed the snow front. Most of the mushers gave their dogs a helping hand, running and pushing the sled up the hill to make their job easier. For the Allianz Trophy, Switzerland’s Evelyne Gaze Stauffacher set the fastest time.

Newcomers to the race, including two Italians and two Swiss who had come to take part in the Allianz Trophy, led the way. Then it was the turn of the main event participants, who delighted the spectators. To date, it’s still Norwegian Hans Lindahl who wears the leader’s jersey sponsored by Crédit Mutuel, while in the Nordic category it’s Philippe Desmurger who keeps the Nordic leader’s jersey. But it was Frenchman Clément Raux who was the fastest.

By covering her dogs yesterday to protect them from the snowy rain that fell on Les Karellis, Cindy Duport was awarded the Dog Care jersey sponsored by Royal Canin.

See you tomorrow at Bessans – Bonneval sur Arc – Val Cenis in Haute Maurienne Vanoise, which is hosting La Grande Odyssée VVF for its 20th year.
